Andrew Neate, guitarist and leaders of the bands Los Twangueros (Balearic chill) and Just Landed (the Los Twangueros blues department) has died. Tracks from the band. Plus a musical feature on John Pengu/Bendhu guitarist and innovator with Philip Tabane and Malombo. Revisiting these pioneers of twentieth century African guitar song has been occasioned by a forthcoming talk on the writer Rider Haggard for the Burton St Leonards Society. Haggard was writer of imperialist imagination who wrote romances on South Africa, including a novel set in the time of the Zulu king Shaka.
