Sat 18 Jan - David Zucchi - Mandi

Saxophonist and composer David Zucchi discusses his project and CD release Mandi on People Places Records. This, his debut composing album combines sax, looping and arrangement with the recordings of a collection of reel-to-reels recorded by his father’s family in 1959 on a Geloso G. 255 recording device. He describes the tracks as elaborations on and reconstructions of the words, songs, and music of these tapes. His approach is to work with glitches inherent in the recording process and the deterioration of the reels that help form the basis of the musical material.
